Advanced Guitar Ensemble

AGES 12 – 16 · GROUP CLASS ·

This advanced performance group is for classical guitarists interested in developing their musicianship, ensemble technique, sight reading, and chamber music skills in a rewarding and motivating group setting.

We’ll learn to:

  • Organize our musical ideas
  • Refine our rhythmic understanding
  • Refine our musical sensitivity
  • Listen more carefully
  • Respond to musical cues
  • Work with other students in a musical team
  • Perform regularly as an ensemble

Participants must be taking weekly private lessons and are expected to show a high level of commitment. Participants should have an excellent understanding of rhythm, the ability to use both free and rest strokes with ease, and be able to read fluently in first through fifth positions.

This ensemble requires at least three years of experience taking classical guitar lessons and a recommendation from an instructor.

Americana String Workshop

AGES 10 – ADULT · GROUP CLASS · 

The Americana String Workshop is a group class for all string players! We’ll learn about and perform alternative styles of folk music that broadly represent the American string music tradition. This includes Old-time, Bluegrass, Irish and Celtic, Swing, and more.

Please note: Participants must have at least one year of experience on their instrument or be familiar with the major keys and scales of E, A, D, and G.

Artist Guitar Ensemble

AGES 11 – 18 · GROUP CLASS ·

Our Premier guitar ensemble is for guitarists interested in developing their musicianship, ensemble technique, sight reading, and chamber music skills in a rewarding and motivating group setting. This ensemble has regular performance opportunities throughout the year.

We’ll learn to:

  • Organize our musical ideas
  • Refine our rhythmic understanding
  • Refine our musical sensitivity
  • Listen more carefully
  • Respond to musical cues
  • Work with other students in a musical team
  • Perform often as an ensemble

Participants must be taking weekly private lessons and are expected to show a high level of commitment. Participants should have an excellent understanding of rhythm, the ability to use both free and rest strokes with ease and be able to read fluently in first through seventh positions.

This ensemble requires at least four years of experience taking classical guitar lessons and a recommendation from an instructor.

Beginning Ukulele For Kids

AGES 7 – 12 · GROUP CLASS 

Is your young musician ready to play a fun and easy-to-learn instrument? Ukulele is perfect for kids looking to jump right into the world of making music!

We’ll learn:

  • Basic chords
  • Strumming patterns
  • Simple melodies
  • The building blocks of music
  • Note reading

Please note: If you register at least two weeks before the start of class, you can ask Glory to provide a ukulele which you can keep at the conclusion of the class. All other participants must provide their own instruments tuned to G-C-E-A.

Building Musical Bridges

AGES 6 – 7 · GROUP CLASS ·

Building Musical Bridges

This class “bridges” our popular Elementary Music classes with private instrument study, offering older children more structured learning of complex musical ideas, note-reading and basic theory. The class prepares students, including future vocalists, who aren’t quite ready for one-on-one private instruction, with supplemental skills for learning an instrument or developing their voice. It is also intended for students who have recently begun private instrument study, as they benefit from the additional learning and reinforcement of skills and concepts. Students develop and perform in multiple disciplines including singing, playing Orff instruments, basic percussion, and movement/dance. This course also focuses on student composition and performance.

Class activities and benefits include:

  • Creation of musical forms through playing Orff instruments, and movement activities.
  • Reading and writing musical notation, including melodic and rhythmic concepts
  • Increased awareness of ensemble
  • Development of rhythmic accuracy
  • Strengthened pitch matching and independent singing abilities
  • Expression of musical ideas
  • Improvisation within the pentatonic and diatonic scales
  • Demonstration of musical creativity through composition
  • Exploration of major and minor tonalities

Please note: All classes consist of 45 minutes of instructional time followed by 15 minutes of Community Time to talk with our expert teachers, ask questions about music and child development, meet other families, and provide social time for children.

Exploring and Discovering Music

AGES 4 – 5 · GROUP CLASS · 

This class explores music through games, movement, and instrument discovery. Using songs and musical games, children expand their musical vocabulary, pitch matching, and rhythmic abilities while developing their listening skills, concentration, and sense of timing. Each class provides a variety of age-appropriate musical activities that foster cognitive, physical, and social skills.

Class activities and benefits include:

  • Development of pitch matching skills through basic solo singing and singing games
  • Development of rhythmic skills including beat, meter, tempo and durational patterns
  • Exploration and improvisation using Orff instruments (pitched and un-pitched percussion instruments)
  • Expanded knowledge of musical instruments and instrument families
  • Development of social skills and cooperation through group activities such as dancing, playing and musical stories
  • Expanded repertoire of simple songs and musical games

Exploring Drums & Percussion is a group class experience for children ages 5-7 that introduces students to the percussion family of instruments. We’ll cover drums, mallet instruments, and miscellaneous percussion all while have fun and making new friends. Each class will cover basic techniques and culminate with a performance.

No experience required.

Exploring Violin, Level 2

AGES 6 – 8 · GROUP CLASS · 

Open to violin students who have completed Violin Beginnings Level 1 and who wish to embark on the next path of their musical journey! The class will build on the musical foundation started in Level I and introduce new concepts, such as note reading and rhythms in a fun and dynamic way. We’ll begin using method books, such as Suzuki Book 1. There will be time at the end of each class for listening – both live and recorded performances.

Please Note: Parent attendance and regular weekly practice are required. Students will need to rent/purchase their own child-size violin as well as method books recommended by the teacher.

First Musical 2

AGES 5 – 7 · GROUP CLASS ·

Stars aren’t born, they’re nurtured! In this class, we’ll use dramatic play to introduce elements of musical theatre including song, dance, and character building. We’ll work together to explore familiar stories incorporating musical elements. By learning the basics of performing in front of an audience, story structure, character traits, movement, and music, we’ll increase social skills and reinforce classroom behavior. There will be an in-class presentations at the end of each session.

Guitar for Kids

AGES 8 – 12 · GROUP CLASS ·

If your child is ready to play guitar, Beginning Guitar for Kids is a fantastic way to start! Our comprehensive class gives students strong fundamentals, builds strong practice habits, and encourages confidence and growth right from the start while creating beautiful guitar music together. Class sizes are small, and students advance together through our units up to a high intermediate level. If your child learns best in a supportive, collaborative learning environment, this class is the first step. No previous musical experience is required.

We’ll learn how to:

  • Take care of our instruments
  • Position our instrument and hands properly
  • Tune our guitars
  • Understand musical notation, notes, and rhythms
  • Play melodies together with our classmates and teacher accompaniment
  • Strum simple chords
  • Develop strong practice habits

Please note that we can form new Beginning Guitar for Kids classes at any campus with enough interest. Please contact our Guitar Department if your child is interested in this class at a different campus, day, or time.

Music Theatre (Elementary School)

AGES 8 – 11 · GROUP CLASS ·

Elementary school students of all experience levels meet once a week to expand their knowledge and skills across the disciplines of Music Theatre. We’ll pick up new skills in voice, acting, and dance while learning how to rehearse, work as an ensemble, and perform for an audience. There will be an in-class presentation at the end of each session

Music Theatre (Middle School)

AGES 10 – 14 · GROUP CLASS ·

Middle school students of all experience levels meet once a week to expand their knowledge and skills across the disciplines of Music Theatre. We’ll explore a variety of styles and skills with our professional, award-winning LMT faculty. We’ll work on our skills in voice, acting, and dance with an emphasis on both ensemble and solo work. There will be an in-class presentation at the end of each session to show our families and friends all fun things we learned.

Rhythm Band

AGES 8 – 13 · GROUP CLASS ·

Not quite a rock band and not quite a chamber ensemble, Rhythm Band is a band for percussionists. Students ages 8 – 13 will play a variety of drums, mallet, and other percussion instruments while learning repertoire from traditional percussion ensemble music to arrangements of popular songs.

Introductory experience through music classes or private lessons is recommended.
